Rent Redution

A rent reduction refers to a legal entitlement under the BC Residential Tenancy Act that allows a tenant to pay less than the full rent amount specified in the tenancy agreement. This applies when the tenant has the right to deduct all or part of the rent due to specific circumstances, such as emergency repairs, loss of services or facilities, or violations of the tenant’s right to quiet enjoyment. Section 26(1) of the Act states that rent must be paid when due unless the tenant is permitted under the Act to deduct a portion or the entirety of the rent.
