Meaning of Rent Increase

Any rise in the amount paid for the right to occupy a specific rental unit, including bundled charges, services, or facilities. Rent increases can only be done according to the Act, currently once a year, and to a government-allowed percentage. Additional increases may be allowed if a tenant and landlord agree and sign a specific form, or if a landlord applies to the RTB for permission due to capital expenditures.
