My path to tenancy law wasn't a straight line — it was shaped by living it. I've been a tenant in two countries, navigating rental systems that can feel opaque and adversarial even when you know what you're doing. That experience is something I carry into every file I touch.
I was called to the bar in New South Wales, Australia, where I worked with leading community legal centres and developed my practice in administrative law. After relocating to British Columbia, I was called to the BC bar and continued that community-focused work, assisting clients before the Residential Tenancy Branch and in related proceedings. Working across two legal systems has given me a comparative lens that sharpens my advocacy.
My approach is client-centered and trauma-informed. I recognize that a tenancy dispute is rarely just about rent or repairs — it often touches housing security, financial stability, and personal dignity. I take that seriously, and I work to ensure clients feel supported and informed at every stage, not just at the hearing.
In addition to my work at Bright Law, I operate Bascombe Legal Services, my independent practice, where I assist clients with human rights complaints, employment law matters, and other areas of everyday legal need. I'm also a certified Legal Coach and a board member of the Legal Coaches Association, and I regularly volunteer legal support to community organizations throughout the Lower Mainland. I believe accessible, high-quality legal representation isn't a privilege — it's something every person navigating the system deserves.
