Legally recognized ways to deliver notices and evidence (personal service, mail, email if agreed, posting in some cases). Defective service can sink a strong case; good service can save a close one. Deemed service is generally where a lot of people make fatal mistakes in their case, which is why the RTB has released Policy Guideline 12 outlining the RTB's service provisions.
